Yamaha deal at Costco

Bought two of the Yamaha 2000W generators at Costco (Salt Lake) for $499 each. Opened up the boxes and each one had parallel cables inside, as well as an adapter for a 30 Amp rv plug. Sweet!

Just as long as everyone knows these are “Yamaha Powered” but not the same as a Yamaha generator. I’m not saying they are bad, but the engine is only one component in a generator. I always get a little skeptical when something is intentionally packaged and designed to look like another well respected product. But with the generous Costco return policy you should be well covered.

Now that you mention it, that was an unbelievable price.

The real Yamaha is 51.5-61dBA and the Costco is 65dBA. That's quite a bit louder.

I might try one (@Costco)and see how it sounds and performs. It's the long-term performance that I'm most concerned with.

Costco price is less than 1/2 the real deal price of $912:

I bought 2 Smarter Tools inverter generators from Costco a couple of years ago. They are powered by the Yamaha MZ80 engine. The parallel kit was not included. I paid $69 for it. They have performed flawlessly thus far. Connected by the parallel cables, they run the air conditioner easily.

$499 is the same price as the Harbor Freight version without a Yahama engine.
If you have faith in the brand, it's hard to beat.

As an option, I was watching the YouTube RV couple test a Atima 3000 that also uses a Yamaha engine (although pricey.)
What caught my eye is that the Atima can be paired with ANY other Atima. So you could have a 3000 and a 2000, use them each separately or pair them together for summed power.

Ryobi - Home Depot

Still better look at the new Ryobi 2200 smart software remote start and stop very quit, three year warranty plus get extended. If find lowes 10% off Depot will honor it. Home Depot all over to return or repair most will just exchange unit

Hey Zep, My burning (pun intended) question is will they survive 7 days at Black Rock City with a few hour long white outs thrown in? I know the Hondas do well, so I'm leaning in that direction. Last year convinced me of the need for 24/7 A/C. Chollabill

Yea, but that price is pretty compelling if same quality as Yamaha brand. Wonder if it will run a 1350 AC unit or a 1500 with an EasyStart? I know my older Champion 2000W would not work with the EasyStart, so I opted for a Champion 3400 Dual Fuel with electric start; also wanted propane fuel source.

Still, impressive price. Here is the chart I did last year when I moved up to Champion 3400:

Honda EU2000i, 1600-2000w, 47lbs, 53-59dbs, $999
Honda EU2200i, 2000-2200w, 46lbs, 48-57dbs, $999
Yamaha EF2000i, 1600-2000w, 44lbs, 51.5dbs, $989
Champion Dual Fuel 3400, 3400W, 95lbs,57-59dbs, $1,053

Here's the specs on the Costco A-I Power Generator with Yamaha engine.
1600-2000w, 52-56lbs, 65db, $499

For those that are still shopping Costco still has the Champion 2800/3100 Dual fuel, w/electric start for $849.00

There is a video showing you can do the same with the Hondas. The guy hooked up a 1000, a 2000, and a 3000 all at the same time, always starting a generator after it was hooked up. I suspect you can do it with all of them. I wonder if the pairing cables on the Costco only synchronize the generators, based on the apparent size of the wire in the pictures which looks pretty small. The Honda pairing cables can also carry the full load current so that you can plug the RV into the RV receptacle on the Companion model.

every 10 db makes it twice as louad

"51.5-61dBA and the Costco is 65dBA"

thus the unit could be more than twice as loud as the real OEM model.

As a point of order, a difference in db. from 62 db. to 65 db. is a DOUBLING of the sound energy.

I hesitate to call it "twice as loud" but in reality it is.

(Oops, waninae beat me to it. carry on)

Fellow campers around you will appreciate the sound of the actual Yamaha generator but if you are happy with the look alike ... be happy!

Good that you hesitated.....the human ear has a non-linear sensitivity curve. Waninae39 is correct. A 10 dB increase is perceived by the human ear as being twice as loud.
