??wiring/lighting/fan????

OK, the lights in both fixtures that look like this don't work. It's not the bulbs. It looks like the wire was spliced to the red wire coming out of the frame, but the black wire looks original where it comes out of the fixture.

The red wire on the fixture is taped, and leads to what....

and the fan, runs on the battery, but not the elecric...what gives.

I need to know ASAP, because I'll have to stop veneering if I have to trace wires.

Love you guys LOL. I'm sure you'll have an answer in a jiffy....Back out to work on it, I'll check back in a sec. Oh, the fuses all look OK. I just don't see how i could have all of the electrical issues on a little trailer>>>>

runs when you crank it open, but only when the battery is hooked up. Is it using the battery juice???

that would be a "yes".

this must be the '76, right? I can't keep track.... the vent, fan, and light fixture look to be exactly the same as whats in my '73.

like most fixtures, its 12v. should run if you're connected to shore power, and have a univolt (or other) converter hooked up.

YEp, it's the 76....I can't keep track either. So what's this univolt thing?

It's really bad that I get PM's from people everyday about what amazing things I'm doing, but.....I have no idea what goes on behind the interior walls. And that manual???? DO you really think I have time to READ that big sucker????

The "Univolt" is just a power supply. Converts 120VAC to 12VDC. most if not all original "Univolts" need the capacitors replaced. My univolt was cooking batteries like mad. I replaced the Capacitors and it works like a charm now.

the "univolt" is the converter/charger that airstream installed in these years. its a transformer...it transforms house current (110/120v AC) to 12v DC. your tow vehicle produces 12v DC as well.

When you're plugged into shore power, the 110v ac goes to the univolt, which converts it to 12v, and sends it to your trailer's fixtures (lights/fans/furnace...maybe the fridge, if you have a 3-way model.) anything leftover, it sends to the battery to keep it charged. everything except the house type "appliance" outlets and the air conditioner runs on 12v, so you can use them when you're not hooked up to shore power. with out shore power, the electricity comes from the battery. (There are oodles of threads on the site here about this whole setup. ).

your tow vehicle produces 12v DC as well, and it'll charge the battery, too, when its running.
