You have 2 different problems. The furnace runs off 12 volts and unless the batteries went dead has no connection to the 120 volt AC issue.
First off disconnect everyting that runs on 120 volts AC, don't forget the frig and the convertor, and see if the GFI will reset. If not you either have a bad GFI or a dead short in the wiring. If the GFI hold plug one item at a time in and see if any trip the GFI.
As for the heater. If the fan comes on and after about 20 seconds the furnace does not light you may have air in the gas line. If it looks like that crack the gas line at the furnace till you smell gas. The orifice in the furnace is not big enough to purge air.
