Question Where to put your Generator when raining?

I have just purchased a Honda EU2000i and Companion Generators. I have yet to use them.
Reading the Manual I note I need a 3 foot set back from flammable objects (I was thinking of a tarp, but I don't think that would be a good idea) and that they should not be used in the rain. What have you done/built to protect your generators when it is raining If u have pic please post.

We experience rain almost every camping trip and frequently need to run our generator in the rain. We use a tarp between two trees ( when available and CG rule allow) otherwise we use tent poles and stakes to "pitch the tarp".

I have one generator. I put a camp chair over it when it rains. I position the chair so that the hot exhaust from the generator does not blow on it. Other than the exhaust and muffler, the rest of the generator is barely warm to the touch and poses no fire hazard to the chair.
There are other threads on this question. Others have built small tentlike shelters over their generators.

I have a purpose-built tent for my Honda. You really do need to cover them if it's raining.

We have a Honda eu2000i too and used it during many a rainy day. I usually put it under a tree which usually did the trick. The generator has a little lip above the outlet to keep off the drips.

When we were in Oregon, it rained a lot so I opened the front window cover and placed the running Honda below it. Perhaps the more experienced campers can tell me if that is a huge no-no with propane tanks right next to the genie.

I don't have a generator, but I have a ac Cooltron cooler. I use a folding table (2by4)folding to cover it. The table has adjustable legs. I use it to protect from the rain and sun.

07007, note the common denominator in all these responses: We all use a cheap, makeshift shelter, preferably something you bring along anyway (e.g., picnic table, chair, tarp). Keep the (very hot) muffler away from flammables, and don't obstruct the exhaust. Safe travels. jon

We have a topper on our pickup. I have a Honda 3000 generator. We leave the generator in the pickup bed with the topper windows and back tail gate top open. We have never had a problem but I know there are some die-hards out there who will respond that this is a fire hazard!! It works for us, thanks!!!

I put mine under the awning on the street side, they stay mostly dry. It works most of the time in Washington. I just point the exhaust away from the trailer.

When we are staying any length of time we put up a bug free screen house over the picnic table and chain the generator to the table so it can't grow legs and walk. For shorter duration stays we use the portable table we carry and drop a tarp over the non hot areas, and chain it to something relatively non moveable.

We use a Honda 6500, stays in the bed of a truck uncovered, lives outside, never a problem in 7 years of south Louisiana rainfall...camping power and emergency house power...runs in the sun, shade, and rain, have no clue about ice storms, though...red paint a little faded is all..Honda 6500 is pretty weatherproof so far.

I have thought of making an insulated dog kennel to put over my generator to further deaden the sound & keep it out of the rain. Theft is a concern also considering how much a generator can cost.

I have a Yamaha 3000 and carry it in the back of my pickup which has a camper top installed. run it the same way never a problem. just keep it theft proof with a heavy duty cable and lock.

My Honda goes in the back of the truck with a camper shell on the end of my Bedslide, hatch window down, tailgate open to dissipate exhaust and heat. Works great with the truck nearby and never had an animal intrusion (2 or 4 legs).

We just purchased the same setup to power our 2010 International 25' for tailgating. I hope I ordered the right ones for our unit. Will be delivered Oct. 26. Never camped without full hookups. Gonna be a learning experience!
