What is this box? Can't seem to remove it!

I'm gutting a 1964 Overlander, and this darn box is giving me troubles. I'm not sure what it is, also I can't seem to figure out how its attached. Any one have any ideas?

ALSO this fan: is it original? Is it worth repairing? I like that its 120v. Which is what I'm going to be doing the entire trailer in. However the screen the plastic in the screen is crumbling which makes it look not so good. Any ideas on this one either?!

THANKS

It looks like an old Univolt converter to me.
I would change the fan over to a new 12 Volt Fantastic Fan or Maxxfan. They are much quieter than the old ones and move a lot more air.
