Ventline Fan Speed Too Slow

This is a weird one I submit to the group for consideration:

Not yet three year old Ventline exhaust fan over the shower is very slow to operate. Sounds like it is seizing up HOWEVER, when I pull the vent closed, the fan speeds up almost to an over speed condition. I can physically see the impeller speed up too. It's almost as if it's not grounding properly (somehow) and once the vent closes it somehow completes the circuit (even though the speed is variable) and it just takes off. Not sure I can upload a video.

Anyone seen this before and maybe able to offer thoughts? Thanks!

Sincerely,

- Steamed Up Airstreamer

Hi

Wires (flexing maybe) could be the issue. Mechanical binding is a more likely thing ...

Update for anyone else who stumbles across this thread: I did nothing and the fan is working normally again. I did notice a visible build up of moisture in the wire nut that connects the fan to the electrical system.
