telephone connection?

Does anyone have any advice on how to install a telephone jack/connection for a 1974 Overlander? Is it possible? Thanks!

Anything can be done.

If you want to add one I would bring it in where the power cord and water enter the unit. Phone cord is small, so you should be able to run it to a convienent location without a lot of dissassembly.

On the newer models they use a 2 door exterior outlet cover and run both Phone and Cable into the unit. This is usally mounted below the lower rub rail midway between the rear bumper and the wheels. If you go this route you will need to add a circuit box, and may have to drill holes in the floor to feed wires. Not really a problem, just be sure to seal up the holes after you feed the wires thru.

Adding phone and cable jacks

I posted some pictures in another thread on how I added phone and cable tv jacks on my '71 Safari.

I ran the cable out the bottom of the trailer where there was already a vacant hole from when I redid the plumbing.

Maybe it will give you some ideas.

My phone wire comes in under the fridge access door. It runs towards the front of the coach and the jack is next to the fold out table, in the same space.

Question

Here is one I've been wondering....

The '03s came with a phone jack (inside). Where is the external connection?

If it is like my International, it should be under a gray lift-up cover on the rear street side along with the cable TV connection.

If it is like mine it is with the TV jack connection in the electric cord area.....by the way someone mentioned the push on TV cable connectors.....need one for mine....it is really hard to screw on the connection.

Man do I feel like a air head!

I mistook that one in back for an electric outlet! Opened it up and sure enough, cable and phone!

Thanks all!

Trying to get my fingers in there to screw in the connector is a real hassle. Just went through that last Friday, then on Saturday morning I struggled to unscrew it again. Worse taking it off than putting it on.

Would this help??

90 Degree UHF for 4 bucks from radio shack. At the least it gets it pointed in the correct direction. Part number 278-0305.

Looking again at my external connection box, that might not allow the door to fully close when in transit. It's a fantastic idea though.
