Surge protector problem

Type: TRC model 34830 30 amp surge protector.

Working properly as recently as Jan. 7, 2020.

Current setup: running off of house 120 volt using adapter onto regular 30 amp cord

Problem: when S.P. Is plugged in, the red light flashes for 120 seconds, then green light comes on with a click - just like always.

However: there is no readout on the screen and no power gets into the AS.

When the S.P. Is removed, the power runs through the 20 amp cord and into the AS via the 30 amp cable with adapter.

Any ideas what’s happening with the S.P.?

likely faulty wiring or low/high voltage

a good quality surge protector will tell you why
many parks are mis wired or under power/poor wiring

That is a good Surge Protector. I had the same one and it would always indicate on the screen if there was a problem with the power. For example if the the voltage was under/over it would not send power to the AS. However, I don't recall that in those situations the screen was blank, but rather it would indicate the problem.

Have you tried it on another outlet in your house to see if the screen keeps working after the 120 seconds? If not then I would contact the manufacturer.

If you don't have a multi-meter to check the voltage at the house outlet, you could get an inexpensive device like the Kill-A-Watt to plug in to the outlet.

From your description, it sounds as if the S.P. has failed. Does the LCD display count up the 128 second the time delay?

Thanks for the replies.

Did some further checking:

Power inside AS is 120 V. Same as power from house outside outlet; measured with led meter. When using cords without the S.P.

I rechecked SP and there is a readout but the screen is so weathered that you cannot read the numbers.

The SP does do the 120 countdown followed by a loud click and the green light comes on. Just no power out of the SP.

Probably time for a new one - looking at the EMS-PT30X.

We have the Progressive pedestal mount 50 amp EMS, very good unit, good company to deal with. Save the receipt, they have a unlimited warranty for the original buyer!

I went with this Southwire unit because I like the Bluetooth remote display.

That is an excellent choice, I have an early version of the same unit. Has worked very well during several 'brown-out" events, no internal damage to the unit.👍

POI...they are sacrificial lambs though. The good thing is that Progressive will repair & return.

I’ve used the Progressive units for 7-8 years. Very happy with the unit(s) and the customer service is outstanding.
