Sunexplorer II Question

I have a factory installed 80w solar panel on the roof and the Sunexplorer II monitor inside. At the moment, it shows the battery mostly at 85% remaining no matter what, full sun etc. If I press the button to instigate a topping off, it switches briefly into CHG mode but them stops. Could this mean that my battery is not in tip top shape? Or is there something else possible or definitely going on here? Thx!
