Strange connection from inverter to battery

Good morning. I've just acquired a '67 Overlander for restoration and I'm very excited about the project. While cleaning out the junk in the trailer, I noticed a unusual wire going from the inverter to the battery. Have a look at the pics. Can anyone explain to me what is going on here and why? I'm thinking if I have to ask this question then maybe I should not be restoring an Airstream Your help is greatly appreciated.

You have some broken links in your post... if your photo is on your computer's hard drive, you have to use the "Attach" button from the Advanced editing window (click the "Go Advanced" button below the edit window). If your photo is on a web page (including the AIRForums image gallery) you can put the sharing URL for the photo in the image dialog box that comes up from the "image" button that's on both the regular and the advanced edit windows.
