Shore Power setup

At home, we are planning on storing our AS around 75 feet from our house. My plan was just to add a weatherproof 30 amp outlet box on outside wall and running extension cord versus running conduit underground to a post with outlet box. Other than obvious issues of a long cord running above ground, are there any issues with power loss running a long extension cord that distance? Any recs on weatherproof outlet boxes?

Should I install 50 amp outlet or stick with 30?

You'll want to use, at minimum, one of these. 75 feet will be fine for just about everything except your AC, you will either want to do some voltage drop calculations (online calculators are available) or measure volts at the trailer while the AC is running, that is if you plan to run the AC. Assuming you plan on using a #10 cord. You will also want to make a shelter for any cord connections to keep dry.
When doing voltage drop calculations it is important to add in the circuit length from the RV box to the main panel. An engineer would even look at the service wire size and distance to the transformer, which is why measuring at the load with everything running is much easier for the average person.

I assumed your trailer was 30 amps.
If you plan on running the AC(s) or having people stay in the trailer ever then definitely a 50. Some would run 50 anyway, if you have the budget then why not? But if it's strictly for storage then it's a waste.

If you're just using the power for storage to keep the batteries topped up, a 30 amp outlet is adequate, but overkill. A 30 amp cord 75 ft. long is going to be somewhat expensive as well. You could probably get by with a 15-20 amp receptacle and a 10/12 gauge extension cord for what it sounds like you'll be using it for. If you plan to run the AC or an electric water heater, I'd consider putting in the 50 amp receptacle next to the trailer.

If using the AC I’d look for a cord of adequate length to reach the trailer. No extension cord. No voltage drop at the connection. No potential for water intrusion. I have a 50-foot cord for when the AS is in my driveway. The thing is a beast…much fatter than the one I carry in the trailer.

I store my trailer on a 20 amp circuit.

I use the 30 amp cord with an adapter.

It keeps the battery charged and WILL run the AC on hi fan speed, coldest setting, with the fridge on 120 volts. Never tripped the breaker.

75 feet plus the run from the breaker: 30 amps use AWG 8 conductors; 20 amps use AWG 10.

Use AWG 8 ga wire or larger and a 30A service will be fine. You do not need 50A. A 50A service will also require 8 ga wire or larger…so what’s the point? …you’ll still only be using half the phase anyway for 120 volts…

You’ve already indicated you know conduit is better…but if you use long extension…just be aware of possible damage to exposed extension cords…mice, rodents, traffic, etc. etc.
