Rrunning Lights

Next job: Check and replace any running lights on the trailer. That is the clearance lights. Shouldn't be a problem but thought I might ask. Anyone did it yet? Any suggestions??

If you have the OEM lights, you can still get replacements at NAPA. They seem to have the best prices(Less than 3 bucks with bulbs) and they are usally just in a bin. Be sure to get the gaskets too. The biggest difference is that your originals may only have one bulb and the new ones will have two. It uses more current but brighter is better in my book.
I would also reccomend getting some new stainless screws to attach them as the old screws may be pretty rusty. When I have replaced lights I always cut the wire as close to the old fixure as possible. Prior to crimping on a new one I also use an anti-oxidant on the new and old bare wire. There is room between the light and the gasket for the extra wire.

It takes 10 min. per light but boy what a diffrence!

BTW if any of the old lenses are still ok save one of each, as you never know when you may be on the road and need one.

After polishing our 1981 Excella motorhome, Jim at Airmark decided that all of the original running lights were too corroded to reuse. He replaced them with new LED running lights, what a difference. They are super bright and draw much less current.

I have been working on my trailer lights and I think I have all of the lights working except one problem.......

When I turn on my running lights, I get bleed over to the reverse lights. I can see a dim glow in the reverse lights.

I do not have the reverse lights hooked up yet to the seven way connector at the tow vehicle.

I will be getting to that shortly, (no pun intended),

Anyway any ideas why I would be getting bleed over in my reverse lights?

Could the voltage be going all the way back through my tow vehicle.

I am reluctant to believe that the wire is shorted within the light housings but maybe......

sounds like a grounding problem to me. My experience has been that whenever there is bleed through like you call it, then there is corrosion on the grounding provisions. The negative side of the bulb that is supposed to be lit is looking for ground through the backup light somehow.
Corrosion can both inhibit the flow of current and at the same time cause false currents.
Problem is, this corrosion could be anywhere, even in the trailer connector or pigtail.
