Replacement 7 way pigtail different than original - 2008 23 FBSE

I have a 2008 23FBSE and the pigtail 7 way connector was getting worn. I asked my dealer to order a new one from AS and replace it.

Lo and behold the new pigtail is not the same as the old one and is not snugging up into my pin receptacle like the old one did. The original pigtail that came on my 2008 23FB had a plastic notch on the top of it that when plugged in would stick up and I could then press down the receptacle cover over it and it would sit snug against the plastic notch thus holding the pigtail in the receptacle.

The replacement pigtail's notch is a good 1.5 inches away from where the old one was and therefore I can't push the receptacle cover down over it to hold it in the receptacle.

I called Airstream and the parts group told me all of the pigtails they use are the same.

Has someone else run into this problem and is there some old part number that I need to be referring to in order to get a replacement pigtail that is the same as my old one?

Of course, the dealer threw out my old one when they did the replacement.

Will try to snap a few photos later today so you can visualize what I am describing.

i suspect that the new plug is not fully inserted into the truck. one of the male pins might not be aligned properly.

Very common with a new plug. Try a little persuasion (light tap with something). Sal

Richinny - It is inserted all the way. I get a connection reading on my brake controller that is good and operates.

The problem is that the tab sticking up is too far inward toward the receptacle so when I put the receptacle cover down, it doesn't snug up over the tab and hold the pigtail in.

Attached is a schematic diagram of old versus new..

OK - I am eating a little humble pie right now, everyone. I went back to the pigtail and pushed it very hard into the receptacle and then put the receptacle cover down over it - bingo it latched onto the tab on the pigtail.

Thanks for all of the help! Problem solved - user error

wow, that IS odd. ask the dealer to measure one from stock and compare it to one on a trailer on their lot.

Might want to look carefully in the plug contact sections just to check. Also MIGHT want to get a small tube of dielectric grease for terminals.
