Question on 2nd /AC or generator input

I have noticed that some (EB in particular) AS models have a front AC line in (IIRC, sometimes referred to as generator connection)as well as the usual one on the side. If you have added this new line input, please share your experioence with parts and install. TIA

Thumbs up

I recall seeing them being installed on some models at the factory while on a tour a couple of years ago, and asked the tour guide about it. He said he believed them to be for those who like to keep their generators near, or in, the bed of the tow vehicle. As usual, he offered to follow it up to find a more definitive answer, but it seems like a good idea, and very plausible. When someone else on the tour asked if it was possible to run the generator in the bed of the TV while traveling, he said "anything is possible, but I doubt it".

Good question, mefly2. I'm also curious as to how they are used.

While we were on the tour last summer, there was an Airstream there that had a Honda generator mounted behind the propane tanks. It was a fair-sized one, too - perhaps a 3000. That camper also had the generator front connection...about two feet away. It made sense to me in that situation. I'm sure there is an automatic transfer switch mounted in the camper somewhere.

Because of the way the wiring was done on our camper for the solar/inverter system, it'd be unbelievably easy to install one on ours. Hmmmmmmmmm!

One advantage for our camper at least is that it would get the generator farther from the bedroom, and locking the generator to the bed of the pickup is probably easier than anything else.

Mine was supposed to come with one but ultimately did not. I didn't kick up a fuss about it because I don't anticipate using a generator.

When we ordered our 28 ft AS Flying Cloud ,we ordered the front generator plug . We have found it useful in 2 different circumstances , 1) Sometimes it is easier to plug into park electrical into the front plug. 2) We have a 3000 Watt Honda generator mounted in the canopy of our PU. We have an RV 110 plug mounted on the rear bumper, with a semi permanent cable running to this plug from the generator. The canopy has a window on the left hand side, the exhaust blows out this window and draws fresh air from the right hand side window. When we are stopped we can also bring fresh air into the canopy by way of a Fantastic Fan mounted in the roof of the canopy. We can lock the canopy and run the power plant while running down the road or stopped . We have done both with no adverse effect on the generator or electrical equipment.Feel free to send a message to me with any questions , and I will call you by landline.

Love to see some pics too - since my battery is up front with the inverter but my breaker box is in back where my shore power comes into Twinks I don't know how hard it would be to do such a mod...
