Problem plugging into the 110 at my RV Storage
Just moved into a new storage space and went to plug my power cord ( with appropriate adaptor ) into the supplied 110 power to keep my batteries topped off while stored and ran into a problem
The design of my power cord is such that the hinged cover over the receptacle does not lift out of the way sufficiently to provide enough room to seat the plug
I'm guessing this is a common enough problem that I don't have to provide a picture of the bulky head at the end of my plug
Can anybody suggest a product I can purchase that will enable me to make this connection?
Thanks!

A good local hardware store should have some 15-amp adaptors which will fit IMO. There is a kind which turns down at a right angle, which may work.

I bought a short RV adaptor that ends in a 15A plug so I didn't have to leave my less-cheap shore-power cord out all the time when I wanted power in storage... I only have about 5A usable anyway so the 30A cord was overkill. That way you can use any regular 3-prong extension cord that'll plug into the outlet.
15A to 30A RV w/ locking ring
There are 50A versions if you have a 50A trailer.

Bingo . . . we have the same setup. Very handy with a 50' #10 extension cord back to a 15-amp outlet at the house.
Do you mean "5A" above? 15 amps?

Do the new Airstreams have smart chargers that won't boil the house batteries if left plugged in continuously with no load?

Do Storage Units Specify the number of Amps allowed?
Do storage units specify how many amps you are allowed to pull from their outlet? If the Outlet is 15 amp rated, does the Storage Unit specify any lower amp capacity allowed?

Yes, that's what I meant. It's a 15a circuit that serves two 4-gang outlets, currently with 3 rvs and a boat that plug in, so I MAY have 5A actually useable if everyone actually needs power.

"Storage space" says to me indoors. If you have the adapter already and it's plugged on to the end of your RV power cord couldn't you just use any old extension cord? They make those heavy duty ones for appliances that are only 4-6 ft. long.

Hi
Yup, just like the old ones ....
The way you boil a battery from charging is to apply to *high* a voltage from the charger. That's not something the old chargers ever did. What they did do ( just like any other charger ) is dump current into a shorted cell.
With any charger, leaving the beast turned on all the time is a pretty good way to dry out ( which is different from boiling) your batteries. Best bet with any charger is to put it on a timer. Let it run for a couple hours a week and keep it turned off the rest of the time.

Bob,
Do you recommend a standard charger on a timer then as opposed to one of the "Smart" chargers like the Deltran Battery Tender or NOCO that claim they can be left connected indefinitely?

Hi
I would not use any "always connected" device on an RV. The parasitic loads will drive most of them a bit nuts. If you can disconnect the battery from the internals, then that's a different case. Even then, an "alway on" device can / might /may /could dry out the batteries.

Thanks

Do you consider being connected to the 110 power source the same as an "always on" device?
Thanks

Hi
If the converter is hooked to 110V on one side and the battery on the other side, then that's ON. If it is in this state 24/7 then that's "always on".
