When I attach the positive clamp on my battery it blows the fuse everytime. 12 volt does not work when plugged in unless it comes straight from the battery. Just bought new battery because the other one died. Should I hook it up to test it?
I don't know if it's related but my power jack quit working. I am buying new one. Anyone find a good deal? Is there something it has to have?
I am not sure where to start. Yes I have a basic multi meter. I check the fuse panel in the front. I heard a humming noise come from there. Thank you for helping. I understand the basics of electricity.
So one of the fuses in the power distribution panel is blowing is that correct? What appliances/components are on that fuse? That is what does not work with the fuse blown or removed? Is it the master fuse that trips or one of the branch fuses? A photo might help.
First step is turn everything off. Then pull all other fuses ( just make sure you label them first). Then check with you meter on the ohms settings if you have continuity. If you do then something else is still in you circuit or you have dead short. Hopefully this is not the case. Then if no short plug the main fuse back in and see if it holds. If so plug in the rest one by one.
The main in line fuse that goes to the battery. I cannot connect both positive and negative terminals to the battery. It sparks. I have never been able to upload pictured to this forum.
I forgot to mention only use the ohms setting if you have the battery disconnected. Not all meters behave the same way and you may destroy a cheap meter if you measure ohms when there is power.
