Plugged into shore power; but no power

Hi all:

Took delivery today of my new 27 ft globetrotter. Got it home and connected it to shore power. Inverter lights up and shows power. The blue light on the plug is lit. No power in the coach. Not the lights, not the awning, etc. Just the jack and stabilizers. I've tried short and long pressing the battery button by the entry. Nadda. Any ideas at all? Dealer is closed. Thanks!

Shawn, I just checked the 2022 Globetrotter manual online and it should be a momentary press on the button by the door. Long press to shut it off (Store).

Our 2019 GT has a different setup but works similar. Hope you figure it our before the dealer opens. Did you get it from Airstream in Naperville? We shopped there but are closer to Ewald’s in Wisconsin.

Good luck and welcome to the Airstream Community!

yep! That's where we bought it. We are in Park Ridge. About an hour from Naperville. I tried long and short presses of that button and nothing.

Have you tried the 120V outlets? Knowing if they work would make diagnosis easier.

If you have your trailer home, is the circuit you are plugged into a GFI protected circuit? In my area most garage outlets are GFI and are sometimes protected by a GFI circuit breaker in the home breaker panel. I've had a TV that when connected to trailer's antenna amplifier that would trip that breaker in my panel when I tried to turn it on when the trailer was home.

The fact that the jack and stabilizers operate would give first indication that you have a store use function that is activated in the store position. Sounds as if those 2 devices are direct connected to the battery and bypass the converter. Page 5-7 of your manual talks extensively about your power converter. The manual also says there is a separate manual for the converter from the manufacturer which is included in the various information booklets that should have been provided to you.

One other thing is to look at each of those manuals and registration cards that were provided to you. While my dealer said I didn't need to fill them out since I was under warranty from Airstream. I did find additional information about warranty extensions for individual appliances and I found out that my systems control monitor was warranted by the manufacturer 3 years longer than the Airstream warranty. That became advantageous when at year 4 some LED lights on the panel burned out and the manufacturer sent me a new panel for free.

Shawn, any word from the dealer on what might be the problem? Would be great if they’d send someone over to your house or do a video chat with a tech to figure it out.

Let us know what you find! *Got the popcorn out

I wish they'd send someone out. They did a diagnosis with me on the phone, rechecked everything I checked yesterday. The assumption is a bad battery disconnect switch. Taking it back tomorrow. I hope they either have one in stock or will swap off one from inventory because we hit the road a week from today.

Does the 2022 have 2 plugs (front/side) to connect shore power? My 2014 does. I had the solenoid that switches between the 2 when you plug in stick in one position. The solenoid is so you can't power both plugs, or back feed the unused plug. If it doesn't switch over 1 plug is effectively useless. Have you tried both plugs? It is just like a car started solenoid, I gave it a good wack and it broke free. I now alternate plugs now and then to keep the solenoid moving.

Well, towed it back to the dealer. Wasn't the battery disconnect switch. Below the breakers, behind a plastic shield, where a bunch of wires run up to the breakers a purple wire had a spade connector that wasn't fully seated. All it took to fix it was to remove four Phillips head screws and reseat the spade connector. Back in business!

Wonder if the tow home finally opened up the connection. One piece of advice I give new buyers is to see if the dealer has facilities to allow you to stay overnight prior to you signing the final paper work. I know my local dealer does that and the next morning they address anything that isn't up to snuff before you drive off. Or if not stay overnight at close campground and have the dealer agree to fix any problems the following day.

I know we had a few items that needed addressing the following morning. We tried out every light fixture appliance, windows, exhaust fans. Shower holding tanks, water pump, every drawer and closet doors. We left no stone unturned! We even pulled out the awning and closed it to double check our own procedures and to verify everything worked.

Shawn, that’s great news!

Glad it was something simple. It is a reminder that an Airstream is a machine on wheels and things can happen. We’ve all had something happen during our travels and it helps to be prepared.

Enjoy your new Globetrotter!
-Jeff

With the power off, crawl around the new trailer and check and tighten all electrical connections. And then check tighten all plumbing connections.
