Outside electrical outlet

I have a GFI tripping in my breaker panel - assuming it could be the outside electrical outlet as it could have moisture inside....

My Airstream is a 1991 29' Excella

QUESTIONS:

1. Is there a way to test the outside outlet for moisture?

2. How do you remove the external outlet?

3. Is this a generic outlet I can replace with one from a hardware store or RV Store?

thanks in advance....

You are making an assumption that the problem is in the outside outlet. You can disconnect the hot wire to the outlet and putting a cap on it for testing. Converters and other powered devices can cause GFI trips as well.

Also, have you tried plugging the trailer into a different outlet?

yes I've tried 2 different outlets - both are at my residence which I have used in the past to power my Airstream with no issues before.

Burnt the end of adapter / pigtail

Well game over - will need someone with professional electrical knowledge to trouble shoot this problem.

I hooked up the extension cord to see if the outside outlet was the problem and burnt the end off the pigtail adapter for the airstream....not fun.

Our area is having a housing boom and getting an electrician over here to look at it - is near impossible.

Guess I will button it all up and just have the 12 volt system for lighting radio etc during my trip this weekend. I can run an extension cord in from outside to power the microwave, coffee pot etc

Don't know if this is the same for your model but in my 2012 it's a ground fault circuit - the external outlet ground fault is connected to the bathroom ground fault as well (I used to use the bathroom GFI test button to shut off outside appliances without leaving the trailer).

Don't know if that's helpful - good luck!

Those cheap GFI receptacles are notorious for failing. Go to your big box store and grab a new one and see if it works
