Exclamation One leg of 50-amp not working!

We have a 50-amp FC30 which appears to have one leg out. The leg powering the converter is out, so the batteries are not charging. In addition, neither TV is working, the refrigerator is on gas, though set to auto, one of the AC units is not working (E7 code). This just started happening about two hours age; both legs worked earlier today. As I was writing this, the other leg came on and immediately shut off. Does this sound like a wire connection problem? Thanks for any advise!

Some additional information: I just put a multimeter in one of the working 110 outlets in the bedroom and measured 240 volts! The Progressive Industries EMS at the pedestal is happy though, saying both legs are at roughly 120 volts, and gives no error. I unplugged the power cable and measured the two legs and see both at 120 there, so something is wrong in the trailer.

Suggestions:
1. Flip both leg circuit breakers in the trailer off then back on.
2. If that doesn't solve then flip circuit breakers off & back on at the park's pedestal or if at home, your home breakers supplying the 50 amp circuit.
3. Check your trailer 50 amp connection for burnt or discolored terminals.
4. Check the male end power cord along with the female plug for burnt or discoloration.
Are you comfortable with electricity and own a voltmeter? If not, then have the park your at dispatch an electrician or call an electrician to your home.

I just observed your additional post. You sound capable of troubleshooting. After checking your shore power cord on both ends for issues then unplug your trailer shore cord. Check for loose connections within the trailer's circuit breaker box.

Sounds like one leg might be shorted to neutral in the trailer. That would allow the outlet to show 240v instead of 120v.

Turn the main breaker in the trailer to off but leave it plugged in. With your multimeter check the neutral to hot voltage for both legs. If you get 120v on each, then your cable is good. If not, your cable from the pedestal to the panel has a problem someplace.

Then turn off all the load breakers and turn the main breaker back on. Test voltage between the neutral and hots. If good, test as you turn on each load breaker until they are not. Then you've narrowed the problem down to that load.

Thanks for all the responses! I turned power back on at the pedestal and shut off all load breakers inside. Both legs measured 120 volts with the main breaker on. However, if I turn on any load breaker, I get over 200 volts on one leg and just a few volts on the other leg.

You have a dropped neutral wire-the white wire. Check at your panel in trailer. You should get 120v between the hot to neutral, hot to ground with tester and check both legs of hot this way. Also check each circuit breaker on load side to ground and neutral.

Yes open neutral for sure, turn it off till you get it fixed, can cause damage to electronics and start fires.

I had one leg not working on my 2012 FC30. Turned out to be loose connection in the female end of the 50amp cord. A screw came loose and one hot wire had slipped out of its connector. Lucky for me the wire did not touch anything else. I replaced both ends and the problem was solved. Good luck with solving your issue.

Just to close the loop on this, I believe I've found the problem. A hunch that it might be one of the AC units led me to disconnect the front AC's white wire and breaker, and the problem went away! Everything else is on at 120 volts. I think the converter is shot, though, but at least I have a narrowed-down list of things to fix. Thanks to all who provided input on this!

I had a problem similar - it turned out that the campground pedestal 50 was out; I then used my 50-30 adapter and plugged into the 30 side and all was well.

The stock converter does not take 220 very well. Indeed, most aftermarket converters also do poorly in this regard.

What sparkymark said. I torqued my wires in the breaker box and the two hots and neutral all needed significant tightening.

voltage

You have a bad neutral connection somewhere.
when your ac turns on the voltage travels through it and causes 220 on line.
Find loose neutral maybe in or before trailer breaker box.

Check your GFI, it could be causing the leg outage. It did on my trailer.
