New Wineguard. Anybody try these?

So I am shopping for an Antenna and this caught my eye. Couple things I like is no forgetting to put it down. Its lower then the A/C so no clearance issues. It also says it will provide FM signal so that will take care of my radio as well.

Anybody have any experience with these?

Our Georgie Boy Maverick class C motorhomes use this antenna. It's nice to not have to crank it up and down, but I really don't think the performance equals that of the crank-up Winegard as far as TV reception goes. The clarity just isn't there on many channels that should be very clear in my area. I haven't tried it for the radio so I can't tell you for sure.

My '72 has the old aerial that spreads as you crank it up. It looks like if you breath on it, something will break. It's performance did suprise the heck out of me though. Channels come in much clearer than a Winegard and mine has no booster that I'm aware of!

That antenna is OK, "BUT".

If not mounted correctly, it vibrates as you tow.

That has resulted in sheared mounting rivets and fatigue cracks in the roof sheet metal. Not good.

That design has been in production for 30 years or so. I had an RCA model that I had stowed up in my attic at home. It had an inbuilt rotor so the antenna within the dish rotated to allow you to direct your antenna to the strongest signal. I used it in two different homes and got about 20 years of use out of it before some component fried and it would no longer rotate. Signal quality was good since the signal is amplified.

Well hell. I was trying to avoid the tips of the bat wing style cutting slots into the roof was one of my main likes of this style. Always a trade off isn't there.

Use the bat wing.

But, bend the ends up enough so that it can't hit the roof while traveling.

See. Life is not always difficult.
