Need Help Troubleshooting A Dometic Air Conditioner

My zone 2 (rear) Dometic heat pump won't cool...the zone 1 unit is working fine. I didn't hear the compressor trying to start at all and the unit was pulling 3 amps with only the fan running when the thermostat was calling for cooling. Just previous to this failure, I was starting to suspect that the compressor was continuing to run well beyond the temperature set point; although I never had the chance to prove my suspicions. If the start capacitor is bad, would I hear the compressor trying to start; and would it be pulling more amps trying to start...or not necessarily so? The temperature set point issue has me wondering if the thermostat or control board is involved. Can anyone point me in the right direction for troubleshooting this? Unfortunately, I don't have 30-amp service at home so I'm just at the thinking stage at this point.

Typically the thermostat is connected to the zone 1 unit with a cable very much like a modular telephone cord. Another one goes from the zone 1 unit to the zone 2 unit. You should be able to see these cables by removing the interior shrouds. Turn you AC breakers off before removing the shrouds. Disconnect each connector and clean the cable connector and the female connector on the unit with alcohol. Use a Q-tip on the female unit. Often corrosion causes these connectors to malfunction. You could also try a reset on the thermostat.
