Mystery wires

Can someone help me identify these wires. They appear to be thin plastic strands - not metallic. They terminate at this black piece on the outside. Any idea??

sorry - 2nd photo posted sideways.

Those are fiber-optic cables that light up in the black piece to let you know your taillights are working. The other end is supposed to go into the taillight housings and pick up light from the bulbs.

Tail Lights

Got it - thanks!! Is there any important reason to keep them -or is it just a convenience thing so you dont have to get out to check if your tail lights are working.

Mystery wires

Depends. It also helps let you know if you are having a connection problem with the Tow Vehicle (TV) at times.

I have LED taillights and an EZConnector system so its not usually an issue for me. I still do visual taillight checks at regular intervals. I do drive with lights on all the time anyway.
