I sure wish there was that much room for servicing my genset mounted in my MH. Make your enclosure removable for this reason. Are you going to hardwire it in with your converter like a MH? I was at a recent rally where electric wasn't available. Some Airstreamers were talking about how long it took to charge batteries by plugging in trailer to generator. One smart fellow had a great idea to avoid taking 1/2 a day to charge this way. He disconnected the battery & used an ordinary battery charger plugged into the generator. I didn't see any louvers on the outside door in your photos. This might cause a heat build up in the compartment. Insulation can only help so much.

as far as the outside door i am going to leave it open when i run the generator that is why i mounted it upside down so i would not have to prop it open when in use and yes i already wired an automitic transfur switch so when i start the generator it will power everthing up and there is no chance of beckfeed to shore power or the other way around

Hi, clinton 2292. I was picturing a newer unit in my mind when you said 4.0 Kw. [micro light] That looks just like my old 6.5 Kw. Is your generator mounted to the plywood floor? Is there any frame work under this area? Are you going to box it in and seal it off really good? We don't want any exhaust fumes coming inside. If your generator is anything like my old 6.5 Kw was, it will shake your trailer pretty good whenever you start it and shut it off. [like a mild earthquake] My 7.0 Marquis was real smooth in comparison on start, stop, and running. Good job, Good luck, and keep us updated as you go.

it will ne mounted to the floor but the frame runs right under the center of it so it will be mounted well plus it sits right over the stablizer jack as far as the cover it will be well sealed plus the exhaust will be run out the side i will post more pics as i get more done

I would suggest going to Onan and getting the specifications on your genset. The air intake has a ratio to the exhaust. In fact, they should have a template that you could place on the floor for the cut-outs. For fire protection, you might also want to put some metal on the wood floor.

The attached picture is an example of what I did (before all the trim was in place . . .).

i am going to cover the wood floor in a fire proof roll on insulating sound deading stuff kinda like truck bed liner as far as the air intake my install manual says free air in no less than 8x10" and the exhaust is also to size per the manual

Install complete towed it about 200 miles all seems well installed co dector ran gen all night no probs

Great Job! That would have come in handy when we were at your local Kart track a few years ago and the temp and humidity were both approaching 3 digits.

Your Genset does look alot like my old 6.5 Kwh

clinton2292 having installed a gen on my unit I can appreciate the thought and effort put into your gen. project. However if I under stand correctly, you slept the whole night with your gen. running. People die in houses with cars running in open garages another case barbequing with the garage door wide open, with no visable entry for CO gas to enter the houses.

I would get 2 or 3 CO detectors in my unit, better still dont sleep with the gen. running.

CO enters your white corpusels in the blood stream making you sick + headack then paralizes you, next a coma, the only cure is a hyperbaric chamber, there is also a point of no return and the chamber will not work.

No not at all poeple sleep in motorhomes all the time with gen running it is sealed from the living area and the exhaust is vented outside as for as the co detector i would hope the kiddy the maker of the dector would make the alarm sound well before levels got harmful it also has a readout of ppm and it stays at 0 and yes i have tested it
