main control panel

just purchased a 71 safari and have fixed many items, now delving into the main control panel, the only items funtioning here are the battery check, panel lights, and water pump switch.....would like to have the water level and holding tank level indicators functioning, anyone have experience fixing said items or are these like the clock which you expect not to work on something this old-figure i can get by without if it requires taking access from the bottom--a lot of the plumbing has been patched together with heater hose, if the sensors were grounded through the piping that could be the problem

also, the manual talks about a polarity check light in the heater control compartment, did not see one, would this be somewhere else? manual also said the power on light on the main panel should glow when you are plugged in, mine does not

appreciate any ideas
thanks

The Univolt in my '77 Excella had been replaced with a Magnetek unit. It does not have a third wire that goes to the control panel therefore it was not connected. If your converter is not original then the same situation may apply to you. It may also be that the bulb has burned out in your panel. Either way, if you go to Walmart, Lowes, Home Depot, etc. they have a small unit that plugs into any of the 110 volt wall receptacles to check for proper ground, hot neutral, etc. It lights up in a particular pattern if everything checks out OK. I just plugged mine into the same circuit my Magnetek is plugged into so that I know I have 110 v. power and the converter is on. Cheap fix.

some electronic gear sounds like the right start, need to replace my volt/ohm meter anyway, the trailer has a Univolt but many fuses were blown and some of the wiring was corroded, the plumbing next to it was leaking and causing some corrosion-odd that it sits next to plumbing

Bison, if you type "level indicator" into the forum search box, you will find much information, including this thread: http://www.airforums.com/forum...evel+indicator
Also, the Airstream manual for your trailer should have a detailed trouble-shooting guide for the indicators. If you don't have a manual, photo-copies are available. Good luck. Nick.
