Lost my Plug!
I got to our campsite only to find my cord had dragged on the asphalt long enough to grind my plug off. Any suggestions about the best way to repair this?

You can get a replacement 30 AMP plug at Camping World (or online from a number of sources). It's not all that difficult to cut off the old plug and replace it. Just make sure you fasten the black and white wires correctly (you'll be able to tell from your old plug -- the black wire is the hot wire, the white is neutral, ground is green).

Thanks so much, I will check their website. Unfortunately my husband "friended" a kind soul that cut the old plug off (and pitched it) before I could make a mental note of which wire goes where so I am hoping your color identification is all I need to replace it.

Home Depot will also have the correct plug, probably cheaper.
If you find The Old Guy in the electrical department at Homey D, he will tell you which wire goes where.

Yes, most Home Depot stores (and Lowe's) carry the 30 amp, 120 volt RV plug you need. RV stores do also.

Which "plug" are you referring to? The umbilical that connects from your trailer to your tow vehicle, or the shore power cord that plugs the trailer into a 120V service box at the campground?

Right Kevin, I'm thinking this is really the umbilical (the one that connects the trailer to the tow vehicle. Why? Because it happened to me.

If it is the umbilical cord make sure the connection to your trailer is set for the time period. When replacing mine the 7 way wire scheme is not the same as ie: 2014 - 1969. So its best to have a manual for your AS. So you don't hook up the wrong wires and wonder why your brakes are locked up because its hooked up to the charge line. If its your shore power cord its only 3 wires and a no brainer to hook up. Cheers!

The plug that connects the trailer to the 120V service box. Does it matter which wire goes to which side of the plug? I understand the ground wire, just wondering if hot and neutral had to be on a certain side of the plug.

Be careful what you buy in the hardware stores. I bought a 30 amp plug that was made from cheap plastic and there wasn't much room to run the wires inside the plug. I am looking for a larger plug made from rubber just like the original. By the way, I lost my plug the same way you did.

I am looking for the same thing. I wondered if there were a longer cord/plug that can be purchased and wire the whole thing on. I haven't had luck finding a good replacement either, just the cheap ones you are talking about. If you find one will you let me know and I will do the same??

Any Rv outlet should have a molded 30 amp 110 V power cord. Could check Voltec Power & Lighting.

Getting a longer cord is pretty easy. Simply buy a 50' 30 amp extension cord, cut the female end off, and wire it in to the breaker panel. You'll have a new 45' cord, rather than the old 30' cord.
Beware of some of the new detachable cords, they are now 25', rather than standard 30'.

I had this happen to me on the road a few years ago (previous trailer, non AS.)
My first thought was to just try and do a splice job on the side of the road to keep going (I always carry lots of tools, soldering iron. etc.) But in the end I was able to carry on down the highway with no brakes or lights to an RV repair shop where they were able to replace the whole cable and plug right back to the junction box - a much better resolution.
They did this while we had lunch and we were on our way again within a couple of hours.
Don't recall the cost but it was very reasonable - certainly not worth my while in some car park with a soldering iron and shrink tubes trying to splice the old cable! I think it might have cost me around $100 total.
On the Airstream though, I'm not sure how easy it is to get to the junction box with the belly pan being there.
The longer I have the Airstream, I have doubts about how good and idea that belly pan is, especially if you need to get at waste tank valves, wiring, etc.
As well, with the salt we get on the roads up here, the rivets are always rotting away and panels starting to drop down - I seem to have to replace rivets (adding large washers due to the corrosion of the panels) every time we take the trailer out!
EDIT - OOPS, SORRY, THOUGHT YOU WERE TALKING ABOUT THE 7 PIN
UMBILICAL CORD !
Brian.
