light bulb

I installed a new porch light cover and gasket. The old one was melted by heat. What bulb should I use as a replacement to prevent this from happening again. Once you enter the door, to the right, there is a light switch. Is this for the porch light?

Thanks for you help,

Bill

From what I understand, Airstream intended that light to be a "scare" light meant for only brief use. If you have the correct bulb in it, the lense will melt again. If you put a dimmer bulb in it, it will probably still melt in addition to putting out insufficient light.

In my Overlander, there is a switch above the door that supplies juice to one of the galley lights. Another switch, in a location similar to what you describe, operates the scare light.

I run a 18W bulb in my porch light, and it's been on for several days without schmelzing the lens. You can go down to a 10W bulb, with considerably less heat.
I am not sure about the functionality of this light, as mine shines sort of high up in the trees, and it is sort of directional, with a narrow beam ....what on earth were they thinking?
