LED Lights

Replaced the tailights over the weekend with the help of a friend from the Long Beach Unit. 1/2 hour at the most, the back end of the trailer was sitting in the sun so the caulking was soft and the wires pulled through it and we were able to push some of the wire back through. My friend is now going to replace his. Jan says they are much brighter, she checks the lights every time we start out for the day. Worth the money.

I have an '04 Safari with the 'old' type 3-lens frame. The dealer has quoted me about $500.- to get the Classic type cast frame with the LED's and install them...I'll probably do that eventhough it is a bit expensive.

Led's

Got my 1157 LED bulbs in the mail yesterday. Will try them today to see if they fit okay. They are double contact bulbs with a 90 degree turn. They have 30 LED's spread in a 30 degree arc. Will let you know.

Oh yes, they cost $15.99 apiece plus shipping. They came from http://www.superbrightleds.com. Just search for 1157 bulbs and scroll down to the 90 degree turned bulbs. All I need to know if they fit. I measured the bulb holders prior to ordering and they should. Will find out today.

We also obtained some super brights.

The problem with the brake/tail light bulb, is that it is turned 90 degrees from where it should be.

Bottom line, is it won't work unless you twist the socket 90 degrees. That's not about to happen on old tail lights, without damaging the socket.

Does anyone know if it is possible to buy new tail light assemblies for the classic motohomes?

Hey Jim, did you catch the fine print on these? They offer them for brake/turn lights but say that they are not suitable for "long on times"??
As our brake lites also act as running lights I'm curious to find out how they work for you and what the heat factor is. Please let us know.
I just converted my marker lights over the weekend and am very pleased with the 'double bull' 15 led lights I got off eBay.

Since there are four tail lights I plan to convert one on each side to LED's. I will then see how it works out. I really like it when a smiling EXPERT tells me It can't be done!!

Went to an auto parts store and bought a generic socket for 1157. Fitted it into the light cup and it is all set to go in. Probably try that tomorrow. I can still revert back to regular bulbs if I need to. The cup is not damaged.

glen and jim,
i am anxious to learn of any new developements...are these 90 deg. leds suitable for use in constant on mode? will they be properly postioned with respect to the monarch 9074 lense? and what about the wide angle, narrow dispersal? wide for turn signal and narrow for brake light?

Those 90 degree versions look intriguing, but from the diagram they provide on the web site, it looks like the staggered little bayonette tabs for the 1157 version might be on the wrong sides (180 degrees wrong) to fit our lamps. It seems like the LED's would end up facing the back of the lamp housing. I hope I'm wrong. Let us know how it goes.

Here is another type of LED lamp I've been watching hoping that they would develop a 90 degree version: Spiderlites. Maybe they will some day.

Two weeks....

Norbert, sorry to say I'm on the outside of these..... have not seen them. Waiting for the same answers as you are.
Joe, the Spiderlites look interesting, to bad you'd have to do modifications to the reflector to make the present design work.

Development is slow.... years ago I asked my Korean engineer how long a cpu software change would take. He said "two weeks."

On a subsquent trip over hear I asked the same Korean how old he was. He said, "two weeks."

So we wait, and wait....and wait.

BTW the new led clearance lights are nice. Just the new lenses make a difference but they have 13 or 15 LED's so are bright too.

LED Clearance Lights

The item number to find the eBay seller is 4549160858. I emailed him and told him I just wanted five of red and five of amber. He made me a deal including shipping that was much lower than his "buy it now" price. They shipped the next day USPS and I got them in 3 days. Direct fit replacement for the old Signal-Stat /now Truck-Lite oldies.

I just ordered 12VDC 1156/T10 PCB LED Lamp which has a separate base from http://www.superbrightleds.com.. if this works the mounting is solved. They say they have a 1157 bulb but don't list it. I will post after receiving and installing!

9074 and 9075...?

Hi guys -

Been following this thread with active interest but am a little confused. Several of you are seemingly talking about MH lights, yes? I have the aforementioned 9074 and 9075 lenses on my trailer and am VERY interested in getting them upgraded.

Seen some mention of the 1175 ( hope I remembered that right!) and those are indeed my bulbs, the question is with the lenses/ bulb combo. Will what you reference address this combo?

Also, Glen, you mentioned the running light upgrade. Is that MH only? Is there a trailer running light swap that is confirmed to work, ie "constant on" issue and whatnot? If so, model number please!?

Sorry for my confusion but its late.

Thanks guys!

Axel

Axel, like so many on the forum you don't have your trailer year / type in your profile and neglect to mention it in your post.
I replaced my running lights with sealed LED units last week. 13 LED's nice and bright, new clean lenses. Paid a little over $60 for ten units / 5 red 5 amber. Calboy is the ebay seller on this deal. Looked at some others but the double bull Signalstat units on my rig are a dead match style wise and this was the most populated of all available.
IF your running lights are not the double bull type then we don't have an answer yet. The Superbright site has probably the most replacement bulb solutions at resonable prices.
