Hi

A Trojan T105 is a *very* different battery than the typical Interstate version. It's a different plate chemistry and the Trojan data sheet very specifically says to charge it at a much higher set of voltages than anything you would see on the typical flooded RV battery. It's very much an oddball battery.

Not sure why this is controversial here.. Read the spec sheet for Trojan batteries, and you'll see that the float voltage is the same. The Progressive Dynamics converter puts out 13.2v for float.

Please tell us how you are calculating 13.2v to be a higher voltage?

The Boondocker converter smart charger technology, like the Progressive Dynamics model, provides the right combination of bulk charge to the batteries, including the T105's. Are you saying these batteries do not work well with these 2 brands of multistage chargers? I know some AS dealers will/do install the T105's as an "option". I remember after I moved to the Boondocker, my friend got the Progressive Dynamics 4 stage converter and also had the T105's installed in his "new" at the time, 2017, 23'FC by the dealer; neither of us have had any issues.

Hi

First off, you need to read the full T105 support package. They get into a lot of interesting charging details in it. They take the batteries to much higher voltages than typical and use different alloys in the plates.

The main point it about the older converters somehow drying out batteries even though it happens at high voltages. The converters from 10 years back simply never ever put those sorts of voltages on batteries. The new multistage stuff does.

Just checked the Trojan User Manual (long version) and it shows an absorption voltage of 14.7 and a float voltage of 13.5 so I'm not sure how a modern converter is putting out more than this. Then checked the manual for the Progressive Dynamics converter/charger designed for flooded cell batteries, and the absorption voltage is 14.4 and the float is 13.2, both being below the max in the Trojan manual.

These number match what I saw in the real world - the Progress Dynamics was very good at holding a steady voltage at the correct level.

What am I missing from your understanding that the modern stuff is putting out voltage higher than is recommended for batteries? It almost sounds like you're confusing the older single-stage converters that only the higher output voltage with the newer ones that go to a float voltage specifically to avoid damaging batteries.

Thats what I was thinking UB was suggesting also. AS started including 3 stage converters in 2018 as I recall...haven't seen any real battery/converter issues on here in a long time.
