Installing solar controller upgrade

I'm upgrading the Atkinson solar controller and display from the stock controller that came with our 2017. Install instructions say to cover the panels on the roof. Question is can I just do the install at night since getting to the panels on the roof is difficult? It's essentially just swapping out the controller unit and wiring back to what is already there.

I don’t see why not, lack of light is the real requirement. Maybe make sure it isn’t a full moon and you are parked under a streetlight?

Sure doing it at night works. On some (all?) Atkinson controllers the green negative solar prewire is connected directly to the negative busbar instead of the controller. On a replacement controller (Victron) you need to connect the green solar prewire directly to the negative terminal on the solar controller. I would also suggest upgrading the wires going to the busbars with 6 gauge wire and adding a 40A breaker on that wire. And while your at it you could install a shut off switch on the solar prewire before the solar controller.
