Same here; when in the 'protect' mode, our 50A model has a very slight hum from the energized coil of the contactor but it's negligible. Might try dismounting it from the panel it's attached to and see if the noise abates some. If not, give Progressive a call.

These gizmos often have a fan that is driven by the temperature. When "doing nothing" they don't get very hot and the fan does not run. As they get busy, they heat up and the sensor boosts the fan. At full load the fan goes nuts. There are a lot of computer power supplies that work the same way. If yours is super loud, it likely has a defective / broken sensor.

I have he same unit and there is no fan. My suggestion would be to try to insulate the unit by using rubber washers between the unit and the wall you mounted it on. The wall is probably acting as a resonating sound board for any noise it is producing (which should be no noise). Also make sure it is installed correctly and nothing is making contact with the case. A wire against it can cause a vibration.

It has quitened down now

Hello everyone,
It took a couple of days but now I have to put my ear to the cabinet to be able to hear the humming. It had gotten a bit quieter after the power went out briefly the second day after I installed it.
Thanks for the help. The next time I have a reason to pull the power center out again I will put in rubber isolators.

Terry

No Noise at All

Our hardwired 30 amp unit is under the bed where the shore power cable enters.
No sound what so ever and I screwed it directly into framing and mouse fur.
