Help - I'm tripping (GFI outlets that is)!

Hi all, I am trying to sell my Excella and cannot get the 120V electric to work. My 12V battery runs the lights and fans, but not the fridge and AC of course.

When I'm trying to show potential buyers, they want to see the AC and fridge run naturally, but when I plug it in - my GFI outlets are tripping in the garage. The trailer plug is 30A, my garage has 20A and 15A breakers... any ideas? I have a 6500W generator, but it won't work either. I've tried turning the AC breaker off, but the main breaker in the trailer is 30A too. Do I not have enough juice to run it in the garage?

My last thought is to try and replace the buss fuses - but I sure could use some pointers from anyone with some electrical savvy please.

So you have a 30amp trailer plugged into a 20amp ground fault outlet?

What kind of power cord ?

How long of power cord?

Turn the A/C breaker off and try plugging the trailer into a non-GFI outlet and see if the breaker for that outlet trips. First you need to determine whether the breaker is tripping because of excessive current--in which case it will trip the 15 or 20 A breaker when plugged into a non-GFI outlet--or excessive current leakage to ground, in which case it won't.

Be careful! If there is something grossly wrong in the trailer wiring the shell could be hot to 120 Volts AC. But more likely it's something more subtle--which can be hard to find.

Did you know that you cannot run a 30 amp AC unit on 20 amp circuits. It will take out the AC compressor from all I've read and heard here. Also if you try to upgrade your fuse to a 30 amp fuse you could burn up the wiring as it is not made to withstand the 30 amps draw. You need to be plugging the trailer into a properly wired dedicated 30 amp outlet with the correct amperage rated wire from the supply to that outlet. Be safe not sorry. Call a electrician to get a garage outlet wired to handle the AC unit. If the fuse keeps blowing now you have a short somewhere. It might be the AC unit or too much draw on the 20 amp wiring. Take your AS to an RV park and plug it into 30 amp service and see if the AC doesn't start working.

Thanks for the comments guys. I have it working now. I tried plugging it into the house using the converter plug to normal 3-prong outlet. Now I can run ALL appliances - but the fridge is still acting up on electric. I guess I'll have to try the gas now.
