Angry Generator Storage

Hi all,

I am a new owner of a 2015 model 28' International AS trailer. When we shopped for the trailer, I was very concerned about the lack on an available factory installed on-board generator.

Two different dealers said that all we needed was two small Yamaha 2000 watt generators in parallel. I bought the generators and was horrified to find that the generators do not fit in the only outside storage compartment on the trailer. They will go through the hatch on their side, but there is not enough height in the compartment to stand them up. Hauling them on their sides lets gas leak out the generators, and the fumes leak into the trailer.

I tow the AS with a GMC Yukon Denali. If I haul the generators inside SUV, the gasoline fumes leak into the cabin, making my wife sick.

Does anyone have a solution for my problem?

Welcome to the forums.

Several people store them inside plastic totes, and then haul them either in the trailer or the tow vehicle.

As mentioned above, some convert the generators to run on propane fuel, to eliminate having to deal with gasoline fuel at all.

Some install receiver hitches on the front of the tow vehicle and carry the generators on a hitch-mounted carrier.

There are a few vendors that offer mounting plates for at least one gen set on the tongue of the trailer, behind the propane tanks.
