generator hook up

Hey guys
We have no power here in Northern California.
We're camping in our driveway!
We bought two Honda EU2000iA generators and a Parallel Kit.
The kit has a NEMA TT-30R RV receptacle on it.
I'm not at home to check my power cord.
Can't remember what the end looks like. The NEMA L5-30 twistlock is on the trailer and the end plugs into a TT-30R?
Will the male end of my trailer cord fit or will I need an adapter.
At home I usually plug it in to a standard 3 prog with an adpter attached.

Hi Dennis. A single eu2000i requires a 30A to 15A adapter. A single eu2000i is all you'll need if you don't run the A/C. The parallel kit? Now that's a good question.

The Parallel Kit I bought comes in a 30amp twist lock or "RV plug" configuration. I can't remember what the end of my power cord looks like.
Are there three prongs? Two slanted lines on the bottom and a "Uish looking" prog at the top?

the a/s supplied electical cord will plug directly into the 30 amp 3 prong female on the genset adapter kit....

BUT

if you plan to use the rv powercord for something other than a twistlock 30 amp rv conection...

say for example you wanna run the rv cord to the house for juice, you need an adapter OR a 30 amp extension cord withOUT the twistlock.

why is the juice off?

Hey 2air'
We had a bad rain storm that started last Thursday night. Most of Mill Valley and other communities in the Bay Area lost power. PG&E reported 300 power lines down. The estimated fix date is next Monday!
Everyone is looking to buy generators and some business are price gouging...2,000 generators for 3,500.00. We found a dealer in SF and bought two Honda EU2000 generators. Tried to heat parts of the house but it's just too darn cold for the kids. Decided to find a parallel kit to hook up the trailer so we can run everything. The first night we used the trailer batteries and were surprised they lasted through the night and then some.
So now we'll be camping in our driveway until we get our power back!

I think it is about 90.00. They included shipping and they are prompt. I hope you get power before you could get one. but maybe for next time. Phil

One point to remember:

If you connect a generator to your house, you need to disconned the house from the power grid. Otherwise you will be backfeeding power into the grid and you could BBQ the poor lineman guy trying to fix stuff.

I have my house wired for a generator. We ran a wire into the main bus. I can shut off the two main breakers and that separates the house from the grid. I then power up the generator and it feeds directly into the bus. To go the other way, I shut the genset off and unplug it. Then flip the main breakers back on.

The really slick way would be a 3-position switch with DEAD NOTHING in the middle, so you'd go grid to DN to Genset. But what I have works fine.

I realize this isn't something you do on a half hour's notice, but it's worth doing for future reference.
