Honda EU2000i With EZ start

Hi all. Total newbie here learning some great tips on this forum! I had the EZ start installed on my Bambi 22FB. I have a question...

This morning just before leaving the campground, I unplugged from shore power and used a dog bone adapter to go from my 120v outlet on the generator to my 30 amp cord plugged into the AS.
The power cord little red light did not light up. It did so connected to shore power.

And we couldn’t get the AC to power on. It didn’t occur to me that maybe I should have reset the outlet. Did I do something else wrong? Theoretically this set up should work I think? Generator was just serviced so I know it is working properly. I guess I’m just trying to get confirmation that this should power my 13,500 BTU AC and I didn’t miss something...should I be doing something else? pic of outlets attached. Thank you in advance!

1.5g...stored in the tongue 'tool' box.
I've found that a bigger container has not been necessary with our 2000i dual fuel.
I use both fuels.
Gas stations are quite common.

POI...yes, there are drain/vent holes in the bottom.

We spent last summer in Newfoundland. Not sure where you are going, but all the places we stayed had electric, and we never needed AC, it was heater at night. Two months of travel and we never used the generator a single time.

Okay, Let me assume the AC did work on shore power, and the "little red light" did illuminate when on shore power.
So the issue seems to point to the generator. Yes, I'd reset the GFI and see if it's happy now. Isn't there also a breaker for the output?
Many people seem happy with the little Honda, so it should work.
Did you have a surge protector in line?
Did any warning lights illuminate?
I'd recommend investing in one of these jewels; $4 at the box store and check your circuits.

Erica,

Did you check to see if the breaker,(circuit protectors), on the Honda had tripped, also ck the breaker for the AC on the panel in the trailer.

For Erika C.

The Honda generator needs to have a neutral bonding plug plugged into one of the outlets for it to work with the EMS protector on the trailer. Here is an example from Camping World. Most trailers do not have the EMS built in so the generator works fine. But since you have this system built in you need to add one of the neutral bonding plugs to run the trailer from the generator.

I didn't see Erica make any reference to an EMS. Did I miss it?
That's why I asked in my post #24

I can not edit the above. It is only true if you are using a portable EMS surge protector or have a EMS built into the trailer. I misread your post and thought that was the case. It is not the issue if there is no EMS involved.

Yes, you guys are correct and I am wrong in this case.

I wish I could edit my mistakes for a bit longer. Sometimes I am quick on the response and slow on the uptake of the question.

I use a portable PD 30a EMS, it works fine w/o a bonded neutral.👍
It just shows open on the TRC monitor in the AS.
To please SWMBO I neutralized a dogbone and use it if the fault code is questioned.🥴

Thanks for the reply. Yes the AC did work on shore power and the red light on the 30 amp cord did illuminate. I still have to check the breaker and see if that solves the problem next time I am with the trailer. I did not have a surge protector in line and I did not see any lights illuminates. I have a outlet tester but I thought I read it wouldn't work to test my generator since it is wired differently than a home outlet?

: Whoa Bob! Please translate for this gal. Not sure what TRC or SWMBO mean...I don't have a 15 amp to 30 amp surge protector if that's what you mean. But I bought the neutral bond plug since it was much cheaper. Would that work? Do I need a surge protector to make this work?

It's ok, thanks for trying to help! I am not sure if my trailer has an EMS. I did not use an external one if that helps. I am still not sure what I need to do to make this work. Any additional comments are welcome

Generator - gas can size; run from truck bed; general guidance

SWMBO is “She Who Must Be Obeyed” also known as DW or “Dear Wife”. Robert is happily married and knows who is in charge. Ditto here.

“Happy wife, happy life” is the rule of thumb.

Erika,

TRC..is the Monitor I use.

The 'dog bone' is what I re-wired to bond the neutral wire that gets plugged into the Honda 2000i and Airstream shore power cord. It prevents the TRC from showing a fault code while on the genset.

No... you do not need a surge protector for it to work...but it is a very good idea to incorporate one in the future.
