Fused Neutrals????

Hi everyone,
A quick question for all the gurus out there.
We got lucky with our '56 overlander (other than a few soft floor spots);
the electrical still works great (origonal wiring). I just didn't like the
origonal s-type fuses installed back then (under the bath sink) so I
finished the 110 vac change-over this past weekend by installing a
breaker panel in the closet near by. I was surprised to find the
factory fused the neutral wires, too!!
Was this for the same reason one fuses the battery ground??
Just curious.....

Maybe it is some kind of fail safe system just in case you got your nuetral and hot reversed and then that fuse would blow when the current started between the hot nuetral and the trailer ground which is also connected to the trailer shell. It does not work if your trailer is not grounded to the earth thru the stabilizers or tongue jack post. I would leave the fuse in there because you never know what you are going to run into at the campsites. I have found over 5 with hot nuetrals over the last 12 years. I always carry a $5 polarity checker in the truck door pocket to plug in before I park the trailer.
