FM antenna

I don't see an FM radio antenna. There is an antenna wire connected to the radio and the wire goes up the wall but I don't see anything on top? The AS is a 77/31 Sovereign. I also have a Vanguard amplified ant. anyone using this for FM?

Hi, Phil,

I can tell you about my two trailers.

The '75 Argosy 28 has a spring-coiled base whip in front on the street side and the wire runs under the skin behind the back of the curved front side window and up into the front overhead compartment.

The '79 Excella had an outlet inside the credenza. Both the stereo and the TV outlet were spliced into the overhead main TV antenna. On my front gaucho model, this is inside the credenza just aft of the stereo-8-track. A PO at some time removed the (trouble-prone) electrically actuated TV antenna and put a batwing style antenna on top. This is not tied into the stereo at all presently, so it ony picks up extremely strong signals. That's fairly low down on my list of things to fix as the old receiver picks up my XM Roady XT satellite receiver just fine. I like mixing 70's technology with 21st century technology.

Lamar

Thanks

Lamar, Thanks for the info. I think I am going to try and connect to my amplified vanguard TV ant. We also use the Ipod and other inputs I just like to be able to pick up local stuff as well.

Phil, I had a '77 Excella 500 31' and the FM antenna was on the street side curved panel. I wonder if someone replaced the panel and didn't put the antenna back in.

My moho has an external radio antenna which doubles as the CB radio antenna too. it really doesn't work well for the CB, but since I don't use the CB I don't care. The FM reception is good. I don't know if trailer set ups are the same.

Phil,
I had a 76 Sov for awhile and I seem to remember it was integrated into the Skyliner antenna. I could be wrong but pretty sure it was up there.

Astro, just be careful you don't damage the finals of your CB radio using a non-resonant antenna. It's best to use an antenna with the proper wavelength resonance for the frequencies you are utilizing.
