Fire Hazard

Beware. I discovered that a splice existed that was not easily visible but could have been a fire hazard. At a minimum it could have burned up, caused fuses to blow and would have been a little difficult to diagnose.

If you replace your Univolt, replace the leads as well. If you still have a univolt, think about inspecting the splices. They are located in an area that may not be as clean and dry as it should be and could cause corrosion...

the problem is not exclusive to the 12v side of things. I nearly burned down my trailer with the 120v system....same corrosion.

I guess I never updated the thread, but wound up replacing the entire box, as the bus-bar in the photo was also corroded beyond repair. and that part wasn't replaceable....so I had to get a whole new box.

anyway, I guess this is just "what happens" to exposed copper over time. condensation, humidity, etc.
