Eu2000i muffler cleaning ideas?
Its $135 for a new one.
Mine is completely blocked. If you blow on it, nothing goes through.
Any ideas?
What is the internal structure of these things?
Is it just a cavity or is there like a zig-zag path?

I dont have my manual with me, but I recall there is a spark arrestor which can be removed and cleaned.

Yes I can get to the screen/arrestor.
But the muffler is blocked inside somewhere, so it’s going to need to be soaked/sprayed/poked.

For every one's information, this earlier thread is the lead-up: https://www.airforums.com/forums/f37...es-211717.html
In view of your total labor hours on this project, is the $135 cost of a new muffler really so prohibitive, if it gets the gen working correctly again?

Do you have any estimate of the hours on your genny?

Original Poster:
I tried brake cleaner.. not so effective
Carb cleaner.. better than brake cleaner it seemed.
This carbon seems resistant to cleaning.
Then I fired up my grill and tossed in the muffler. Turned it over a few times. I think the hotter you get, the more carbon gets burned off. Dont think my grill was extremely hot. When i was done, i tapped the muffler all over.
Also picked up some rubber corks at the hardware store. This so i could fill the muffler with carb cleaner. But also you can drill a little hole through the cork and put the little red straw through it. Then you can blow canned air through it if you don’t have a compressor available.
The cork/can thing also allowed me to bust through the initial full blockage.
Muffler pretty clean now.

too slow
Gas grill was my suggestion.
On dirt bikes we use propane torch to clean spark arrestors, that works really well.

Thanks for the update . . . wondering if the spark arrestor still works as designed after all of this, like a new one would?
Maybe fire up the genny at night, and check for sparks?

That's what the Honda service manual says to do.

Keep at it. If you could develop a solvent for burned carbon you will make a fortune.
