Easy Start

This may be a stupid question but -- Will an Easy Start allow you to run the A/C on 20 A shore power ?? I did some searching but didn't find an answer. Thanks.

Not the definitive answer but I have run my 13,500 BTU AC from a 20 amp garage plug. You should contact the folks at Micro-Air directly. I’ve found them to be extremely helpful.

The Easy Start lowers the power surge for starting the compressor. It does nothing to reduce the run current of the AC after it is going.

Whether or not you can run the AC on 20 amp circuit depends upon your AC and the quality of the 20 amp service. Our AC does run on 20 amps. I turn off the power converter, put the fridge on propane, and set the AC to full cold so the compressor does not have to restart once it gets going. I monitor the voltage with a little plug in meter to be sure I have enough. I also run the AC on my 2000 Honda generator. I do have the Easy Start. I think the killer for the AC would be if the current switches off and back on quickly. Better to go through the EMS. Note to self: plug the EMS into the 20 amp circuit with an adaptor if I run the AC from a campground 20.

The AC pulls about 49 amps for a fraction of a second without the easy start. With the easy start, it pulls 16 amps and then settles down to 12 or a little less amps.

Also, if running on 30 amps, it is possible to run both AC's even though one AC does not have an easy start. I've done this many times with no issues. This includes running the fridge and Adle system on propane.

There is a possibility that both AC's could have their compressors come on at the same time, but the chances of that happening are almost impossible as the energy spike is so short.

The answer is indeed Yes, if you don't try to run other stuff too. Many of us installed the Easy Start, initially, so that we could run A/C off of 2K generators. But you do not have room for other stuff on the same circuit so run everything that you can on propane and don't do it if the battery is charge is in its early stage.

Thank you all for the answers. I suspected you could do this. I think a few years ago I even did it with another trailer and no problems. We do have good electric service here at home. And Bill M - I do run all my RV power through the 50 A surge protector. Thanks for a good reminder on that point.

The 2020 International rally is in Colorado and the early information says that only 20A electrical service will be provided. This is making us question if we want to go since it can be hot and no A/C at night could be tough. Thanks to this conversation I'm rethinking. So to be clear, if I get an Easy Start installed on our 2016 30' Classic and run only one A/C we should be good to go, right?

Correct. I just had an Easy Start installed at the International Rally in Doswell. I can now run one A/C from a 20 amp receptacle in my garage.
