DIY - Adding a front power inlet

Today I finished modifying my Airstream to add new power inlets both front and rear, with the front power inlet designed to make it possible for my new F-150 to power the Airstream's line voltage systems whilst towing. I'm pleased to report everything worked perfectly!

I chronicled the whole adventure over on the F-150 forum. Happy to discuss any Airstream related questions here.

Generator inlet.

Hi, click on my blog and start with page four and work backwards to page one to see how I did my generator inlet system; My system is designed to work without a transfer switch.

Love the creativity - great job.

It's funny how we make slightly different design choices but end up in very close to the same place. And that's what makes the Airstream community amazing!

Hi, as you mentioned in your F-150 forum posts, one of my main reasons for this system was to have a cool trailer at rest stops and the next camp ground. We were traveling with an old dog and when we got to our next camp ground, my trailer was 103 degrees inside. I left my dog in my F-150 with the engine running and the air conditioner on until I was able to get my trailer cooled down. At that time I thought it would be great to start my truck bed mounted Yamaha 2400 generator, turn on my air conditioner at the last rest stop before the next camp ground, and have a cool trailer when I get there.

We have used this system at rest stops to cool our trailer and / or use the micro-wave for lunch. Wife also loves it.

My latest adventure was to install a manual transfer switch on my house for black outs; We seem to have plenty, and why not? I have a generator.
