NOT strange! At least I hope not as I disconnected mine shortly after getting the trailer. It has a .1+ amp draw even when turned off, so it is a significant parasitic load, especially if the trailer is not plugged in to charge the battery. At first I just left the red & black 4 ga wires disconnected in the battery box, I put some rubber hose on the ends to prevent anything falling on the ring terminals. Recently I installed a battery switch between the inverter fuse and the inverter so I can now easily activate/deactivate the inverter. Still have not used it except to see if it works.
As for pass through, that would depend on how it is installed. On my '17 20' the 110 plug coming from the inverter is not plugged into a shore power 110 outlet; there is no outlet to plug it into up under the forward bunk, so no pass through for me. But all my inverter fed 110 outlets are next to an official shore powered outlet, so I do not need pass through.
Safe travels.
