Plugged 120v to my trailer for the first time to check out the 12 volt system.
After about 20 min. all of the 12v lights flicked and died.
Disconnected the 120v line and then all of the lights turned on!
(Under battery power)
Question:
Is there a circuit breaker inside the converter that can be replaced?
The converter is a 40 amp series 3200 made by B.W. Mfg.
Dick
If the interior lights are working with the AC unplugged they surely should be working with it plugged in, assuming the converter is wired in correctly.
I would suspect a bad fuse block or another bad wiring connection, the built-in converter fuses are notorious for erratic behavior such as this.
Chas,
Thanks for the input.
Apparently there is an internal 12v circuit breaker inside the converter in addition to the row of 4 buss fuses on the converter panel.
Question;
I dont know if those buss fuses are suppose to be 2.0 amps, or 20.0 amps, due to a smuged label??.
I think that I'l try isolating each circuit to see if there is a short to ground, while having present 20 amp fuses instead of required 2 amp.?????
Dick
Dick those fuses are for the lights and batt charging ,The univolt itself is protected by one of the 110 circuit breakers .Here is a link to what I have found to be a common problem with older univolts.....http://www.airforums.com/forum...hlight=univolt . Tom
Hi Tom,
Thanks for the link.
The problem is definitely inside the univolt. I pulled all of the fuses, and the hot rail turned dead. Disconnected 120v and the hot rail turned hot (from the battery).
I am now going to check the capacitors that you so kindly referred
me to.
