Carbon monoxide detector batteries

Batteries only last 2 wks in carbon monoxide detector. Is that normal?

Hi

It's not normal, but how good were the batteries "when new"?

They were new and I’ve gone through 3 new ones every 2 wks for a while now. Ever ready and Duracell both.

Time to replace that detector, assuming it only runs on batteries...if not:

If the batteries only back it up, and it's powered from another source, like the 120 volt AC or 12 volt DC supply, make sure the supply is good to the detector.

If the detector does not have its normal power source, I can understand only two weeks on batteries...

Hi

Three sets of batteries gets us out of the "bum battery to start with" thing.

Most of these detectors (propane, smoke, CO ...) have a lifespan of 5 to 10 years. Generally when they die, they start making a racket or flashing lights. Yours probably has indeed made it to end of life ....

You can get battery only CO detectors. Even if yours does have a +12 input, I'd replace it with a battery only version. The less nonsense you have draining the main batteries the better.

Sounds like it is not functioning correctly. No battery powered detector is designed to have the power supply replaced two times a month. As suggested prior, if the unit requires shore power and the batteries are a backup, maybe that life is viable.

In any case - time to upgrade. Pat
