Campground Voltage

Having a discussion here at the house. Hoping someone can help answer the question:

When we go to a standard campground that has electricity and connect to the 30A shore power - are we connecting to a 115V or a 220V circuit?

I'm of the opinion we're plugging into 115V, since nothing in the camper runs on anything but that. Even the biggest amp sucker in the camper is the Dometic air conditioner - but the Dometic manual shows that it is powered by 110V.

Taking the camper to my in-law's house in a couple of months and we're going to stay in their driveway. They want to add a 220V 30A circuit to their fuse box so we can power the camper (and, specifically, the air conditioner). I'm saying don't do that, just have the electrician add another 115V 30A circuit.

Thanks for helping clear this up before the big trip back to the Midwest.

There are a few threads in here about that. You are right. Can't remember the titles of the threads but search for stuff like 30A RV outlet at home and you'll get there. Good luck!

Have them add a 30amp, 120volt circuit, NOT a 220 volt. The 30amp plug used on RVs looks similar to the plug on a 220 volt dryer circuit but it is not the same plug. Your camper's AC power is all 120 volt.
