Blowing breakers

I have a question for all you "sparkies" ...I've always marveled at the electrical conversations here and this isn't complicated..my trailer trips breakers and it's typically at the pedestal but occasionally it happens IN THE CAMPER..just recently we were running a TV, the AC and electric water heater..you'd think the camper would handle what's installed..the trailer is 6 yrs old..could the breaker have gotten weak? Would replacing it prevent it? Why would those items draw more than the rating? It tripped when the water heater kicked on. Might the element need to be changed? I've inspected it & it's clean..any suggestions? Thanks!

I assume you are connected to a 30 amp breaker. If so, the AC and water heater will bring you close to that draw. Add on the power converter and you will probably exceed the capacity.

A Progressive Industries EMS is a good investment for your trailer. It will show you the line voltage as well as the amp draw to help trouble shoot your problem.

As noted above, you may be close to the SB limit.

I would turn off the water heater, it really isn't needed when watching TV.

We turn it on,(propane), in the AM and off after breakfast...You'd be surprised how long it stays 'hot'.

I'm going to guess that there are other things drawing power at the same time, such as the converter/battery charger.

These devices all add up, and a 30-amp pedestal is only capable of supplying 3,600 watts.

Thank you all....I've heard it's not hard to exceed the limits...we've been doing just that, turning AC or water heater off when using the microwave or such.. just checking to see if this is typical..sounds like it is...and that AS takes their trailers right up to those limits...and then some.
