Batteries grounded correctly?

When I got my 23FB, the batteries were wired as shown in this picture. Is this correct in terms of the grounding cable? It seems odd to me that it goes from the positive post to the chassis ground as shown by the smaller black cable going to the right lower corner of the attached picture.

If the red wires are indeed on the positive terminals, then the small black wire should be attached to the large black wires, which then are the negative treminals.

I can't see where the other end of that small black cable goes. Are you sure it is not going to some place like the break away switch, or the tongue jack. If it were connected to ground, you would have a dead short and burned up cables or some other disaster.

Are you sure that small black wire runs to ground? Could it be to the break away switch to power the brakes in case of a separation from the tow vehicle?
If it were going directly to ground from the positive side it would most likely melt, with two batteries wired parallel you have a lot of amperage (only 12Volts).

It looks right. I think that small black wire is for the tongue jack and will be fused somewhere between there and the jack. Disconnect it and see if the jack stops working? You would think the wire would be red but the ones I have seen are black too.

My money is on it being the feed to the tongue jack.

Hi, it's the tongue jack wire; Mine is the same. If that was a ground wire, it would have melted instantly.

Black is positive and White is negative in/on the trailer. It looks like it is wired correctly. In automotive wiring Red is positive and Black is negative. It is virtually impossible to find a White battery cable. That is why it can be confusing.
I don't know who the rocket scientist was that came up with black and white in a trailer. Maybe they didn't understand the trailer would be connected electrically to a car or truck with red and black cables. Duh!

I didn't think of the possibility Of it being the tongue jack. I will check that when I am back at the the trailer.
