AS22fb with AC running on battery

i replaced the previous LIon controller with a victron multiplus controller and inverter

the AC2 output is only for the AC

thus i can easily decide if it can run on batt or not

here is the screen shot of the ac on and off

Curious, how many hours do you think you can get off of your 200Ah in moderate heat?

I assume you are referring to the heat strips? 5600 BTU of resistance heat is ~1600watts.

What gauge of wiring did you run from the multi-plus to the batteries? Where did you install your multi-plus?

i moved the lion battery under the bed . it is now under the center of the bed, close to the front. that way i can add a 2nd battery

i installed the mutli-plus where the battery was ie under the bed on the left side just close to the water heater

i ran 6ga between the battery and the multi and also between the two switches
i have one -ve ground bar
i have two +ve power bars
  • one bar is for power is only on.
  • the other bar has power that i can shut off

everything else DC runs with 10ga

for ac , i ran 8ga solid cables between the power filter, the AC fuses under the fridge and the mutil-plus ac1 and ac2

the air cooler is the only thing that runs off AC2, everything else runs off ac1.

With no ac in , the mutiplus runs from the batery and inverts AC to ac1 and not ac2

6 gauge isn’t rated for enough amperage to run the A/C or resistance heat if I’m doing math right. The heat strip is slightly less draw than the A/C compressor, and it works out to be over 120-amps. You might want to revise your settings to make sure you don’t over amperage the wiring, especially if you do add a second battery.

Agreed. I used 01 gauge between the battery and the Multiplus and it’s a short run like yours. For longer runs people run things like 04. That current out of the battery can easily top 150 amps running the AC. I know your single battery wont let that happen for long, though.

By the way, with three 100Ah batteries I can run the AC for about 45 minutes and end up with about 50%. state of charge. I try to use the generator when using the AC with the multiplus helping mix that current and the battery. (No need for an EasyStart.) However when I know there will be lots of solar the next day and we just need to take the edge off the interior heat before going to bed it is nice to know the AC can run for a little while just on battery.

tnx may main need is not for the AirCon, that's why i have it on mutiplus AC2, so that it does not run through the inverter

the inverter is so that we can run all the other non-high current devices

You should either have a fuse on the battery (80 amps?) that matches the amperage of the wiring (the BlueSea MRBF blocks are great for that), or you need to upgrade the wiring to match what the MultiPlus pulls (and add a fuse/breaker to match the new wiring). Victron states that "AWG 00" should be used in the manual.

I’d still make it possible to run things like a hair dryer, coffee pot, microwave, or induction cooktop. Those are all going to draw close to 100 amps from the battery so may as well put in the right wire from the beginning. 6ga is just wasting energy and making the Multiplus work harder with higher resistance even if you are okay with the wire getting hot.

I’d run the Air conditioner off AC 1 on the Multiplus even though you don’t plan to run it on battery. That way you can run the AC off a small generator or 15amp circuit should the need arise. The multiplus will use the external AC and make up any deficit with the battery on magical ways.

i checked

the 1.8m of 6 Ga flexible multi-strand copper will do 55A continuous with less than 3% loss

on the weekend i will double up the connection from batt to mutilpus with another 6ga pair.

my path is less than 1m
This will give me over 100A continuous with an acceptable low loss that i can live with
