antenna on 61 overlander

was wondering what the antenna on the curbside of my 61 overlander does and where the leads go to? It is about in the middle of the trailerand is about 8 feet long and has supports to keep it bent to the back of the camper.

The radio whip antenna was typically an indicator that the coach either had the International package or was originally equipped with the optional radio. The antenna was desigend to connect to a 12-volt automotive type radio (at least in my '64). The lead entered the coach through the sidewall in the far foward corner of the streetside wall inside of the cabinet in the front dome -- the point where the cable is found in your '61 may differ since I believe yours has a shelf rather than a locker (or cabinet) above the front window.

When my coach was restored/refurbished, the antenna was refitted with a CB lead so that I could have a permanently instaled CB (for communications at larger Rallys) in one of the roof lockers -- the original radio was missing when I purchased my coach.
