A/C kills my generator!

Hey all! We just brought our '66 Sovereign home to Colorado (we moved 2 years ago) from storage in MI. I hadn't messed with it too much when we first bought it so I don't know all of her ins & outs. Messing aroung today, I hooked up our 3500/4000 generator & everything is good except the A/C dogs down & kills my generator after just a minute. It's an Emerson Quiet Kool, unsure of vintage. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

First question is how big is the generator?

generator

I have a 3500watt generator also and it won't run my a/c without popping the breaker on the generator. I purchased the Honda 2000 generator set and it runs the a/c fine. i think the breaker is weak on the generator. It should run the a/c fine. It's not a name brand generator either.

Generator is a 3500/4000 watt (not name brand). It doesn't blow the breaker but just dogs down & kills the motor. A/C is a QuietKool 1400

Unable to test w/ shore power at the moment. I did get to thinking about the heat (it was 95 at 11 AM today). Was going to wait until evening but we just had a small rain shower come through and drop the temp 15 degrees started the A/C after and no hickups!

Is this the usual rooftop AC? Or a commercial freestanding unit? Jim

It's a rooftop, Emerson Quiet Kool 1400. Probably 25 years old... It hasn't run in 2+ years. But it ran when we bought her 3 years ago after sitting for a few years. Like I said, once the temp was down to 85 after the rain, she ran fine and even did well after it got hot out again. It was mainly an issue of getting her compressor "over the hump" the first time around.

Did the generator have 10% ethanol gas in it?

Probably E10....seems like all we can get anymore. I think a dead start in high heat after a few years dormant was my biggest issue though.
