'76 Argosy Doesn't Take a Charge
I bought a new battery for my old (recently acquired) '76 Argosy 24. Installed it. However long I try to charge it up with my Honda generator, it takes no charge. My lights and electrical system runs beautifully off the generator. Am I not turning on an overall system switch somewhere (looked but cannot find) in order for the battery to charge? I suppose the "new" battery could also be dead? I have not tested it. I welcome any advice for a newbie. Particularly if I am overlooking some overall system switch.

Just a thought... a new battery does not mean a "good" battery. I recommend that you test the battery outside of the trailer to see if it holds a charge otherwise. With electrical... start with the simplest solutions and work your way to the more complex.

Are you charging via the Uni-volt (Converter-Charger in the trailer) or directly off the generator? If the former, is the battery disconnect switch turned to off? If the latter, do as Hampstead38 suggested. Take it to one of the BatteriesPlus or similar with good testing equipment and let them have a go at it, (4027 Tacoma Mall Blvd). Good luck, welcome, and let us know how you make out.

Dear Wil,
Newbie response: I do not even know if I am charging via the Uni-volt charger in the trailer. I just have my generator hooked up to the rear external cord and expected that to be charging the battery.
Where would the battery disconnect switch be? This is probably the key - the solution. Again, '76 Argosy 24.
By the way, thanks for the Tacoma Mall Blvd. address.
Sincerely,
Paul

Try looking around for a sort of hidden switch location. Mine is located behind the sofa on the cover over the battery box and the UniVolt and fuse block. They do get creative at the factory. ;

Boardy, we own a 76 Argosy 24, there is no battery cutoff switch installed from the factory that I know of. Someone may have installed one. You will really need a common Volt meter or multimeter to be able to test the battery and Univolt. I suggest you purchase one before proceeding. Check the battery as sugested and also check if the Univolt is charging. With the unit plugged into shore current see what amount of current is reaching the battery. Chechk the fuses in the univolt. One of them may be bad. Check to make sure the battery ground cable is connected. Good luck.
